Beach Opening – Finally Emerged

Beach Opening – Finally Emerged

I’d love to say that I drew this image—or rather, this illustration—but actually, it was created using generative AI. It’s called “Butterfly Beach Opening.” There’s also a video version. While it might be possible to create a version where butterflies all enter the sea together... the one I made this time only shows them flying. I’ve posted it on Instagram, so please take a look!

Now, this is a continuation of my earlier post, “The Swallowtail Trio.” One of the butterflies emerged back in March, and the remaining two finally emerged in June. I honestly thought the darker one might not make it, but to my relief, it did emerge properly.

It was upside down.
This one was upside down too.
These chrysalises are attached to the wall with thread-like silk at two points on the head and one at the tail. It seems that when they start moving a lot right before emerging, the silk at the head often snaps. As a result, they ended up flipping over.
The first pupa to hatch

Incidentally, this one seems to have emerged beautifully from the head.

I’m really glad that all three butterflies successfully emerged. I didn’t get to witness the exact moment of emergence, but that morning, I saw a swallowtail butterfly flying nearby. I wonder if they’ll lay eggs on the same lemon tree again.

I never expected them to overwinter, so being able to observe them over such a long period was truly enjoyable.

Someday, I’d like to create a stylish “Butterfly Series.” Please look forward to it!
