My Recent Sketchbook Experiments
When it comes to drawing, I find that if I don’t draw regularly, absolutely nothing comes to mind. At least, that’s how it is for me. I also find it difficult if there isn’t something I actually want to draw. Really. So, I made a decision.
I’ve been down the art-supply rabbit hole for about three or four years now. I have piles of unused art supplies and papers. They’re completely going to waste. I thought I really needed to do something about that, and recently, I came up with the idea of using them to start what I’m calling my “Try-It-Out Sketchbook.”
I paint the paper first, then, once the paint has dried, I draw patterns with colored pencils. It’s an easy way to test different color combinations and motifs.
When I especially like a color combination, I draw it on a separate piece of paper and put it into resin. The fact that I don’t know how it will turn out until the resin has completely hardened is part of the fun.
I ended up making a piece that I really like.
I’m not sure yet whether it will become part of a new series or appear as a special one-off piece, but I plan to turn it into a new accessory. Stay tuned!
